This is excellent. If I might pass on a tip I received from a famous poet: better to use italics than quotation marks to designate a quote because of the aesthetic value and flow to the poem. In other words, it won't break the poem up visually.
i waffled back and forth whether to use quotes or italics . . . in hindsight, i think you're right, italics would've have been more aesthetically correct.
